What is Copyright and How Is It Enforced?

Just as your car or any other valuable gadget can be stolen by miscreants, so are the chances of any literary work created by you. That is why the word and the law called Copyright cam into existence. To provide legal protection to you incase of any of your creative work stolen or misused by any other person, especially on the net, Copyright Laws are enforced. If you see your work being copied or reproduced on any website with your name cited or link given to your website, it is normal and in fact beneficial to you as it cancopyright law bring more traffic to your site and can increase search engine ranking of your site. If however, the work has been stolen in a brazen manner implying it is original without your approval or prior information, it can be considered as an infringement of the Copyright Law and you can as for action against this criminal act.

You may not know it, but this Copyright protection is available to you even if you have not yet published your work on the internet but have written it, and you have a copy of the work with you. Copyright cannot protect you if the work is limited to an idea in your head, as there is no proof that it came in your head earlier than anybody else.

The cases of infringement of copyright are enforceable in a court of law. If it can be proved that a person is a serious offender and he intentionally copied any other person’s work copyrightwithout prior information or approval, he can be sentenced to prison and made to pay punitive charges. So even if you do not have a copyright symbol for your literary work, no one can reproduce it without asking for your approval.
